Status of herbicide resistance in Phalaris minor in wheat in Haryana

Herbicide resistance in little seed canary grass (Phalaris minor Retz.) wheat is the major sustainability issue, which puts rice-wheat (R-W) system north-western Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) under serious threat. To assess level, a questionnaires based survey with systematic approach was conducted during rabi 2017-18 five districts (Yamuna Nagar, Kaithal, Karnal, Fatehabad and Rohtak) of Haryana. The study revealed that at present, farmers Haryana are closely back to square one, similar situation herbicide P. like 1990's currently, no satisfactorily effective against resistant minor. Farmers using every possible combination herbicides hit trial way. In 2017-18, half (50%) went for second spray, 13% applied third even 3% opted fourth spray. same pattern followed case dose; 38% 2-4 X-dose, 16% 4-6 6-8 one percent 8-10 X-dose. Negative relationship between control higher dose (X) (Chi-Square value 72.560a, DF = 12 p <0.001) multiple sprays 67.076a, 8 P recorded also indicates strong chances/evidences development.
